A: There is no such compulsion however following could be your first set of things to do.

One-time Activities:

• Replace your nickname in place of 'Self' in Settings screen

• Enable 'Un-restricted Battery for Tasks' in Settings screen (For the task masters :))

• Enable 'Allow Alarms & Reminders in App Settings' on Magicpad; More Task Options  or Detect Object (for Quick Reminder) will prompt it first time for Android 12 and above

Then

• Enable Privacy PIN in More Settings and change to your chosen PIN (optional)

• Create group clicking Groups link on Dashboard (optional)

• Select newly created group from Group Selector on Dashboard (optional)

• Write your first task or information after clicking + icon!

A: Welcome screen is the splash screen welcomes you and provides you quick access to Getting Started screen. It mainly protects your Dashboard privacy letting you quickly add something. If you do not wish to see welcome screen, you can deselect 'Show me again!' option.  Later, enable via 'More Settings' if you wish.

A: The app requires permissions to perform device specific functions such as accessing your device camera. If you choose to use media attachment function, then the app requires to access device camera. For latest Android phones, Notification, Alarms & Reminders, and Battery related permissions are required for the app's task management features. If you deny any of these permissions, the app will work without these features. 

A:  It is a mechanism that searches all the tasks due today. The app Searchbar gives best in class search functionality. It allows you to search data and types of data based on your keywords. Type any letter/word, it searches all the items' data content. Type '&' and you will be prompted for Search suggestions. 

Following '&' related search suggestions for your ready reference.

• &task - it gives you all the task items

• &info - it gives you all the info items

• &imp -  it gives you all the items marked important

• &private - it gives you all the items marked private

• &thoughts - it gives you all the items having thoughts logging enabled

• &media - it gives you all the items having media attachment

• &open - it gives you all the tasks which are open

• &wip - it gives you all the tasks which are work-in-progress

• &closed - it gives you all the tasks which are closed

• &reminder - it gives you all the tasks have reminder set

• &repeat - it gives you all the tasks have repeat set 

• &due - it gives you all the tasks due in future

• &today - it gives you all the tasks due today

A: The app provides superier privacy feature for your sensitive private data on the Dashboard. 

First, welcome screen protects your Dashboard then if you make any item private with or without PIN, lock appears on Dashboard.  If item locked with PIN, it enforces PIN protected access to your data, media or thoughts!

You can enable PIN in More Settings screen.  Default PIN is '0000'; you can change PIN later. In order to change PIN, you need to enter current PIN and select change PIN option.

Remember: Once you change default PIN, secure it. Forgotten PIN can be receoved via About -> 'Get Support' on chargeable basis.

A: It is a feature in which you can add additional information (thoughts) as time progresses or situation changes. It builds the context of an Item. It is applicable for the tasks mostly however you may use it with information too.

A: If you are viewing an advanced task in 'Smartviewer', it gets auto enabled and lets you inspect the advanced task data.

A: The app provides best in class Task Management feature; helps you provide advanced attributes to your task as below.

• To set/unset Due Date (Task Expiry) for the task with System Notification

• To set/unset  Due Date (Task Expiry) App Reminder along with standard System Notification (with short Ringtone & Vibration features)

• To set/unset Repeat Task for the selected repeat frequency

In addition to these, item level Task Status, Thoughts logging and Priority shifter are provided on the Dashboard.

Note: You can convert an info into a plain task and vice versa but for an advanced task, you need to clear due date to convert a task into an info.

A: It is the unique feature to detect objects on Magicpad for the content (received or pasted) for SlateX object and the content (written or dictated) for Quick Reminder.

SlateX object:

• It is portable data object (object that describes data of an item) used to collaborate between SlateX users

• For example, Friend A sends encrypted SlateX object to Friend B via WhatsApp message

• Friend B select the WhatsApp message and share to SlateX app

• The app prompts Friend B to save a copy or override an original object if exists

• Eventually, Friend B will have Friend A's SlateX item in his/her SlateX app! Join meeting or cycling together :) 

Note: If SlateX object does not have media attachment, Friend B will copy-paste SlateX object to Magicpad and tap '{ }" icon.  

Quick Reminder object: 

• It is templated data object to set quick reminder

• You write or dictate (in English) as per the template and tap "{ }" icon

• For example, you say - 'Hey remind me to do something after 30 minutes'

• Your reminder to do something will be set to fire per your command

• Follow the in-app validations for correctness of your command

Note:  Minute(s)/Hour(s)/Day(s) accepted as time unit.

A: An Into is a mechanism by which you can assign item into any of the existing group while adding/editing. By default, while adding, new item gets added into group selected in Dashboard and while editing, item gets updated in group it belongs.

A: To make a Bulleted List within your item, write your word or sentence in new line by hitting enter.

• First line will be used as list-heading and subsequent lines will be used as list-items

• To change bulleted list (on) to un-bullet it (off), then edit lines and re-bullet (on) it

Note:  It will not work on single line text.

A:  Promo Code is custom code that helps you increase default limit of entries of the app.

Steps:

• You may request code via Get Code link

• Do mention how many more entries you require

• You can paste the received code as-is and tap Redeem

Note: You can view your entries in About Screen. You may be asked to justify use of code or screenshot of your exiting SlateX entries.  Promo code is discretional and subjective. Keep it protected before use.

A: Mostly the app reviews your tasks and keep them up-to-date. However, in rare condition (if you see alerting triangle on your task items that does not disappear soon), you may require to review stuck tasks manually. Following case can trigger that condition.

In-App Manual Review required:

• When you re-installed the app onto existing version (update scenario) 

A: It is a way in which the app performs automatic review of the tasks.

Out-of-app Auto Review:

• When you restart your phone

In-app Auto Review:

• When you returned from Recycle Bin

• When you import SlateX object into the app

A: It is your nickname/alias that you wish to keep while sharing an item with other apps. Default nickname is 'Self'. It adds identification in sharing items and associated thoughts. It is key in collaborating SlateX object with others SlateX users.

A: An appname sharing adds originating app's name as prefix to an item shared with other apps.

A: By default, your thoughts added via Thoughts Screen are attached to an Item and it is restricted for privacy to send out to other app. If you wish, you can enable before sending out and make sure you disable it again. 

A: Export is a unique feature by which you can take your data out of the app in plain text in 'What You See What You Get' format along with media files into your device's public folders. At any given time, your data is not 'app locked' here. It is advisable to export your data before uninstallation of the app.
